Since the year 2010, Robert Ivy has been the CEO of American Institute of Architects. He has also been the editor in chief of Architectural Record. Robert Ivy has been in this position since 1996. Robert is quite an industrious individual because he also serves as the vice president and the director of editing the McGraw-hill Construction. His work entails ensuring that publications are of quality for families reading them.

Previously, Robert has worked for Ivy Architects as a principal. He also became a managing partner at Dean/Dale. All these opportunities earned him fourteen years experience. At this time he decided to change his working environment and join the corporate world. This decision was a wise one because he excelled and even received an award in 2009. The following year, Alpha Rho Chi recognized him as the master architect. He had done a remarkable job in imparting knowledge of design to a new generation.

Robert Ivy has not limited himself to his profession only. He is an advocate who represents agendas concerning his profession. He understands that political, social and environmental issues are part of construction, design and architecture. So far, Robert has done a commendable job in managing employees, budget and the overall management duties of AIA.

The American Institute of Architects began in 1857. Thirteen architects came together and decided to start this organization. The objective was to support each other and welcome other architects to join the entity. Today, the organization aims at achieving perfection at what they do practically and scientifically.

The headquarters is in Washington D.C. Every day; the institute strives to advocate, educate and enhance the public image of the architect profession. It also does community redevelopment and public outreach. The architectural profession is not an independent one. It works closely with other industries such as construction and design.

The organization’s duty to be an advocate has managed to represent the national interests of the architects. The leadership and members have influenced government practices that affect policies in the architecture profession. Another area that AIA pays attention is in regulation and legislation. This is also another area where they participate to ensure that these rules and regulation are in favor of the profession.

AIA is quite an inspirational organization to architects. Members will highly benefit from the objectives Ivy has for AIA. He wants architects, contractors, and designers to be technology oriented. This is where the promising future lies. AIA needs to embrace the changes of digitalization.

All You Need To Know About The American Institute of Architect (AIA)

The American Institute of Architect (AIA) prides itself as the voice of all architectural professionals in the United States. Its headquarters are located in Washington, D.C., and it offers its members education, government advocacy, and support to help them improve their profession and public image. Robert Ivy, a renowned architect, is the current Executive Vice President and CEO of The American Institute of Architect (AIA).

History

The American Institute of Architect was launched in 1857 after a group of 13 architects, based in New York City, noticed that architects did not have an organization that would help them protect and improve their profession. The initial group was only made up of the 13 architects, with Richard Upjohn serving as the organization’s first President. The organization was up and running, but it was not as strong as they expected it to be. For this reason, Richard Upjohn called for a meeting, and they unanimously agreed to invite 16 other renowned architects to join them. The invitees included Calvert Vaux, Alexander Jackson Davis, and Thomas U. Walter.

Before the formation of the AIA, it was hard for people to differentiate between qualified and unqualified architects because there were no architecture institutions, architectural licensing laws, or regulation in the United States. After the 16 architects agreed to join the organization, they all met again on March 10, 1857, to draft a constitution and bylaws that would govern the organization. The organization was first called New York Society of Architects. A Philadelphian architect, Thomas Ustick Walter, later suggested the name to be changed to what it is today. Is the organization only for architects? Well, it was initially, but it now works for all members of the building industry such as designers and construction teams.  Follow AIA on twitter.com

Since its inception, the professional organization has attracted more than 90,000 approved architects and related professionals. All its members follow a code of professional conduct designed to ensure they offer their colleagues, clients, and the public exceptional services. There are five membership levels in the AIA. They include the following: Architect Members, Associate Members (Assoc. AIA), Emeritus Members, International Associate Member and Allied Members. The organization is headed by a Board of Director and employs more than 200 full-time employees.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is a collective of architects that aims to help design a bright future for the United States and the world at-large. Throughout the years the group’s values have been steady, and their commitment to bettering the architectural world has remained the steady guiding hand that directs its efforts. The organization has been around for more than 160 years, and its members are the very people who build our hospitals, places of worship, buildings that we do business in, and much more. The AIA not only actively seeks to improve the state of architecture in the world through its own efforts but also seeks to voice its knowledge to governments who make the policies that can have an effect on the very fabric of our society’s constructed world. The AIA also does its best to educate the public and raise awareness of the value of architecture.

Some Important Details Related To The AIA

The AIA has over 90,000 members in its fold, all of whom are licensed architects and associated professionals.
