Alumnus Kelcy Warren’s Monumental Gift Makes History at UTA

Kelcy Warren, an accomplished alumnus of The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), has made a groundbreaking philanthropic
investment that has left a lasting imprint on the institution. Warren, who
serves as the Executive Chairman and Chairman of the Board of Directors of
Energy Transfer LP, has generously contributed $12 million to support the
development of the resource and energy engineering (REE) field at UTA. Not only
is this gift the largest single philanthropic donation in UTA’s history, but it
also signifies Warren’s dedication to giving back to the institution that
played a pivotal role in his educational and professional journey.

The funds from Warren’s gift will be instrumental in advancing faculty and research excellence
in UTA’s new REE bachelor’s degree program, providing students with
unparalleled educational and career opportunities in this rapidly growing
industry. Recognizing the significance of his contribution, UTA will name three
endowed REE academic positions, along with laboratory space, a career
experience center, and scholarship/fellowship recipients in Warren’s honor.
Additionally, the gift will support research experiences for undergraduate
engineering students, enabling them to gain valuable hands-on experience and
knowledge in their field.

Through this transformative gift, Kelcy Warren aims to address the critical need for highly skilled
graduates who can effectively manage energy resources. The innovative REE
program at UTA will equip students with the necessary skills to design,
develop, and evaluate energy generation, storage, conversion, and distribution
systems. By combining engineering principles with business interests, graduates
will be well-prepared to make immediate contributions to the dynamic energy sector.

UTA President Jennifer Cowley expressed her gratitude for Kelcy
Warren’s visionary philanthropy
, citing the immense impact it will have on UTA’s
growth and prominence in the REE field. The REE bachelor’s degree program is
set to launch in the fall of 2023, marking a significant milestone for UTA as
the first of its kind in the United States.

Kelcy Warren, as a distinguished UTA alumnus, has been a steadfast supporter of the university for
over two decades. This recent $12 million gift adds to his previous
contributions totaling over $4 million, including support for the Texas Tier
One strategic research initiatives and scholarships. Warren’s commitment to UTA
and his dedication to fostering the next generation of engineering
professionals in the energy industry are truly commendable.

Thanks to the generosity of Kelcy Warren, UTA will continue to lead the way in resource and
energy engineering, making a profound impact on the future of the industry and
the success of its students. See related link for more information.
